She's BAAAAAAACK!

Caitlin got home from Kids Camp at noon today. She was tired, sunburned, and dirty, but all in one piece! :) She told me that she was sad to have to come back because she was having so much fun. I am sure that playing with Christian is much less enticing than water fights, swimming, shaving cream fights, and everything else those silly girls did while they were away. I think it was a well-deserved break for her though. Hey---do they have Mommy Camp? lol One funny thing that happened while she was gone was that she lost a tooth! Her counselor came up to me when they were getting off of the bus and handed me a wadded up paper towel. She said it was Caitlin's tooth and that they did the whole "tooth fairy" thing for her when she lost it. How nice! :)

This is a fun one...

What color is your soul painted?

Pink

Your soul is painted the color pink, which embodies the characteristics of love, friendship, compassion, femininity, relaxation, ability to overcome evil, honor, morality, general success, gratitude, appreciation, admiration, sympathy, health, and marriage. Pink falls under the element of Air, and is symbolic of gentle emotions and of emotional unions.

Isn't that interesting? I really do like pink too! :) Thanks to Misty for this one! Try it and see what color you get. You may be surprised!

Glamour Shots

I took the kids to Glamour Shots last week and had quite the time. They are running a special where you get 9 photos for $9.99 (you can't beat that), and the one pose you pick for that package gets entered into their kids photo contest-both in the Amarillo store and nationwide contests. I really didn't care about winning anything. I just wanted the cheap package deal! :) It was very interesting taking them in there by myself, doing 3 outfit changes PER CHILD, and then waiting around to pick which poses I wanted. It was about a 2 1/2 hour ordeal, but definitely worth it in my book. Here are the poses we got this time around. I plan to order a few more, and I'll post those later.

Play Ball!

John got invited to play in a softball tournament yesterday out at Southwest Park. He was on the Pantex Fire Department team called the Flame Throwers. The tournament was hosted by Lifestar and Northwest Texas Hospital, and it was their first time host something like this. We had a blast hanging out at the ball park all day (from 9:30am-6:00pm) and visiting with everyone. The best part is that the Flame Throwers won first place!! They beat out the Lifestar team, which was pretty sweet. John had never played softball before, but he did a great job. He got to hit a few times, made one point, and even caught a fly ball. Steve and Jill were kind enough to bring their grill, and the guys cooked hamburgers and hotdogs for our team and family members. I was hot, sweaty, and sunburned, but I loved every minute of it! :) I hope John gets the opportunity to do this again sometime--it was a ton of fun!

Buffet For 1/2 Price?!?

We went to lunch after church with Rob, Misty, and their girls and had a great time! We went to Furr's--the new buffet one on Soncy. Something that Misty pointed out at the register is what this blog is about. I am actually still floored by it. It was a sign that read something like this:
"Notice: Furr's does not offer a discount to gastric bypass patients. Thank you for understanding."
Ok, now here's the real question: WHY would a gastric bypass patient, who can only eat like 3/4 cup of food at a time even step foot into an all-you-can-eat buffet and have the guts to ask for a discount? Also, how many requests like that does it take before they actually have to put up a sign? Amazing...

Camp Time!

Caitlin headed off to Kid's Camp (through Trinity Fellowship) this afternoon. We packed her up, made sure she had plenty of underwear---if any of you know me well, you know that was once a nightmare for me at camp---took her to the church, and waved goodbye as she boarded 1 of the 10 buses taking children to Floydada for 5 days of worship, sports, and water gun fights. Caitlin is fearless when it comes to leaving home. I am amazed at how she can wave goodbye without a tear in her eye. It's probably because she's insanely happy to be away from the 3-ring circus we call a home. :) Me on the other hand...well...I miss her already. She's my big helper and I am lost without her. Have fun Frassy, and we will see you Tuesday! Much love and kisses!

Can you really find IT?

This is a little bit of a random post. I was thinking today about all of the time I spend searching through Ebay. In fact, if there was and Ebayer's Anonymous, I'd probably be encouraged to go.

"Hi, my name is Melissa and I am addicted to Ebay."

That sounds so sad, but it's so true! :) I try to rationalize my spending by saying I'm just being thrifty. For those of you that have never bought an item on Ebay, I would not encourage it at this point...before you know it, you will have been sucked into the vortex. You will wake up every morning, turn on your computer, log in to Ebay, and possibly spend 3-4 hours of your day (between chores, kids, and whatnot) endlessly searching auctions for anything from clothing to car parts. You may even put off going to bed until an auction ends in the wee hours of the morning so you can see if you were successful enough to be the high bidder. You might even sell some of your junk around the house just to support your habit...once you get paid by the buyer, you immediately turn around and buy something you've been watching for days/weeks. I'm convinced that's why we have no clutter or extra stuff lying around this house. :)

Whoever thought up Ebay and it's endless auctions was a sick, sick individual. LOL

When you buy or sell things, you get feedback from the people who do business with you. Ebay keeps up with your feedback and whether or not people gave you positive or negative comments. Your positive feedback is your best friend--it's what everyone else is looking at. Sad to say, I have a total of 530 positive feedback and 0 negatives. Yes, that means I have bought/sold 530 things.

I can hear John sighing as I write that.

I have bought my kids' clothing, shoes, hair accessories, toys, Christmas gifts, birthday gifts, cell phone/ipod accessories, fabric, my clothing/shoes, car parts for every car we have owned, all kinds of baby stuff, breastpumps, bottles, a stroller, cd's, several car cd players, DVDs, knives, diapers, coupons, gift certificates, home decor, books, makeup, buttons (yes, buttons), sewing patterns/embroidery designs....the list could go on and on. If ever I think of something I need/want that I don't want to hunt for all over town, I end up sitting my happy bum in the chair and buying it on Ebay. I have heard it referred to as "the world's biggest garage sale," and I'd have to agree.

Recently, Ebay has been running commercials that say you can always find IT, whatever your IT may be, on Ebay. IT could be a wedding ring, a dirty old sock, or even a movie poster. So the question is: what is your IT? and can you really find IT on Ebay? I think I will have the answer to that question next week (is the suspense killing you yet? LOL).

Truly, Ebay has revolutionized the way people shop. It may be the laziest way, but most of the time it's the cheapest, and I'm all about cheap!

Babysitting

We got the opportunity to babysit Alexis today while Jill worked. It was so fun to have her--she is a VERY sweet and easygoing baby. The kids had a blast playing with her and feeding her. Caroline and Alexis babbled back and forth, and I am sure they were having a great conversation in baby language! :) To top it off, Alexis slept for 2hrs. She made babysitting her a breeze! Alexis, you are welcome back to play at the Haskell household ANY TIME!

The Hoses and Juan

Alrightyroo, this post is just for funsies. It is kind of side note from the DFW trip. It really shows just how funny my darling friend can be. I mentioned in that post that Sheridan and Doug just moved in to a beautiful new house. Well, they are in a newly developing area, so there are TONS of houses going up all around theirs. When I mentioned that there was construction noise (they are putting up about 7 of them directly across the street), Sheridan said, "Oh, that's just the hoses."
"The huh?" I asked.
"The hoses. You know, there are about 10-15 hispanic guys framing those houses, and we call those guys the hoses....Hose-A (as in Jose--you know, a hispanic name), Hose-B, Hose-C..."

Do you get it?!?! If not, then I pity you, because it's hilarious. LOL

She then said, "Yeah, and then there is Juan who works over there...he's a white guy."

"So then why is his name Juan, and how do you know that's even his name?" I asked, not really knowing what to expect.

So Sheridan responds, "Because he the 'Juan' white guy." LOLOLOLOL

She's so silly! Needless to say, we woke up to the sound of the Hoses hard at work every morning...might I add that they are doing a great job! :)

A Vacation Haskell Style

As most of you know, we used to live in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. While living there, I became friends with a wonderful chick named Sheridan. She and I met when I was the office manager at the dental office that she and her family went to. John and I love to go back to DFW and visit her, as well as do some shopping and goofing around. Sheridan and fam (which consists of her hubby Doug, Melody and Lydia who are 14 yr old twins, Taylor who is 10yrs old, and their dog Addison who is spoiled rotten lol) just built a new house (it's massive!) in Arlington, so she took us to the Parks Mall nearby as well as some small shops and the new 24 Hour Fitness that had just been built. Yes, we even work out on vacation! haha Also, we just got to hang out at her house and chill--it was a nice escape from the day to day happenings at our house. :) Thanks to Sheridan and Doug for letting us stay at your casa, and also for keeping us busy. Thanks also to Steve, Jill, and Alexis for taking such good care of Charlie the dog and our house while we were gone! Be forwarned--there are a lot of pics in this post! lol

The Zoo And New Friends

This is actually a post that should have been done this past Friday, but I went on vacation so I'm adding it now. Misty and her girls invited us to the zoo where she met up with her new friend, Katherine, from California. Katherine has 2 girls, Olivia and Claire. They are adorable!! Katherine also brought a friend who had 2 kids, so we had 10 kids to wrangle! Whew! :) It really was a lot of fun--we even had a picnic in the park afterward. Here are a few shots from the outing. Thanks to Misty for inviting us!

Finally A Resolution

I apologize for the previous post--as you can tell, I was very frustrated and tired of talking on the phone to people who were less than helpful. :) I am back to my cheery self now, and to top it all off, I have a phone that actually works! YEAH! All is right with the world again. lol
I traded my not-so-impressive razr (boo--I was really beginning to like it!) for an LG Fusic. I am sure no one really cares, but the main reason I am telling you all this is so you know that I will now have a reliable phone that I can actually use and that YOU can reach me on. Thanks to all in bloggerland for being understanding and letting me whine. :)
Have a great evening!

Customer Service

I just felt the need to blow off a bit of steam. When I think of the words "customer service," I think of people being paid to HELP you with your problems--to serve the customer and do what is necessary to retain a person's business.
Why is that so hard for some companies? I am having cell phone issues DELUXE, so I called my cell phone carrier (will remain nameless since I do not want to be a basher) to see if they could help me out. My brand new Razr phone (purchased about 10 days ago) is already giving me fits--battery dies within 2 hours of fully charging it, and today I could make and receive calls but no one could hear me.
Just peachy.
They tell me to go to the nearest store and exchange it for something else.
Alrightyroo. No problem--or so I thought.
I go in to the store (now mind you I have all 3 kids in tow and am already a bit frazzled) and they proceed to tell me that they can do NOTHING about switching out my phone since I ordered it over the phone and didn't purchase it through the store.
WHAT?!?! You can't be serious.
I drove home in a complete state of anger. I fed the kids, laid them down for a nap, and called the cell phone carrier again.
It has now been 2 HOURS and I am still on the phone with them. Every "customer service respresentative" has had a different story. I have been hung up on twice, transferred numerous times, told to call a different number, had a lady try to program my phone (which has NOTHING to do with the problem), and have had multiple people tell me that they can't help me.
WHY?? Why is this such a hard thing? I just want a different phone--for the love of Pete!!
I finally called the cancellation department and am currently waiting on them to fix the problem. I find it quite funny that the only time I am able to get anything done is when I threaten to cancel my service.
Is that what customer service is about? Making a woman crazy by tossing her around from person to person until she throws her hands up, crosses her eyes, and screams? Is it all just the way the system works?
I really don't know if a cell phone is worth the wear and tear on the hen's bum, if you know what I mean. LOL Hopefully I will have resolution soon...I am persistent, and I WILL outlast them.

One More Redecorating Project

Just a little background for those of you who haven't been to our house. When we bought it (it was built in 2001) it was in HORRIBLE shape. We had to come in and completely redo everything. EVERY wall (yes, you read correctly) has had to be repainted, we laid new carpet upstairs, John put in wood/laminate floors downstairs, we put in new faucets and light fixtures in all 3 bathrooms, new baseboards throughout the lower level, and new flower beds (pics of those soon!) and landscaping. We saved our master bath for last, because no one ever sees it. :) So as far as redecorating goes, I am now FINISHED! Haha It was a horrible peach color with dark green wallpaper below the chair rail. I didn't take before pics, but here are some after pics--mainly for my mom-in-law who didn't get to see it before she moved. :) I told John that I really don't want to move anytime soon. Redoing a house from top to bottom makes me want to stay in it forever! lol
Lovin' my new mirror and lights--the mirror is nice and high for us tall people :)
The potty side--the color on the bottom is grey
My awesome tub area--gonna put some crosses on this wall when I get a chance!

Before & After-Kitchen

As most of you know, we have been waiting to have new countertops installed for roughly 4 months now. We originally ordered Corian but were sort of forced to switch to Silestone due to a problem with the Corian manufacturer. I am so glad we made the switch!! They installed them today, and I couldn't be more pleased than I am right now with the new ones. They were DEFINITELY worth the wait! Here are some before and after shots to show you just what a difference they made (along with a new sink we so desperately needed--the people that owned the house before us rusted the sink out).

Wildflower Pictures

When we were over at Mimi & Pappaw's house this evening, Mimi took some pictures of Christian and Caroline in her beautiful wildflowers. Caitlin was at VBS, so her pictures in the wildflowers will have to be taken another time. :) I think Mimi and Grandma Duke did a great job getting the kids to pose for these.
