Thanks to Misty for the link to the site of how to make your own training pants. I'm going to the store sometime this week to pick up some fabric for the job. :) By the way, if any of you ever need a link for a project--heck, for ANYTHING--Misty is your gal. She can google like no one I've ever seen!
For those of you who read my blog and do not have small children, I'm sorry you have to endure yet another post dedicated to the topic of potty training. It's the big subject right now around here, and it can be a huge point of frustration too.
Ok, the frustration is by no means with Caroline--it's with the world of training pants. I am not one of those moms that has to have organic everything, #1 brand, most expensive items, etc. I truly just want the things for my children that make their lives easier and MY life easier. With that in mind, I googled "training pants" this morning in order to find something different. I originally bought some of the "cloth-inside-plastic-outside" ones off of Ebay, but that's the ONLY place I could find them and the markup was unbelievable. This is all because it is a coveted smaller size that has apparently been discontinued in the stores. Why?!? Not enough teeny tiny hinies I guess. Gonna have to re-Ebay them because they swallow her--something to do with the plastic outside that makes them more bulky and bigger than necessary.
Anywho, we've also been using the good ol' pull-ups, but to me they seem to be too much like diapers. Caroline has been doing amazingly well with #1, but #2 is another story. She keeps bringing me a pull-up when she feels like she needs to do #2---it's almost like she thinks she needs a diaper for it. One of the few times she did do it in the big potty, she cried about it...almost like it scared her.
My theory here is that if she has no option of a diaper-like pull-up, then she'll have to learn to do it in the potty. Yes, I am prepared to do more laundry and deal with the stink. :)
Like I said, I started looking up training pants on the computer, and there are tons of different ones. If you really want something made of cloth that fits well on small bums (under 30lbs), you have to pay $12-$16 each---yes, that's correct---EACH, and you have to order them. If you were to go to a local store such as Wal-Mart, Target, or Toys R US, all you can find are Gerber cloth training pants that start at size 3T. Waaaaaaay too big for Caroline. After researching it, I found a lady who had the same issue with a skinny child, and she found some at JC Penney.
Yes, I immediately packed up the 3 C's and headed out to the mall. After 2 trips in the "eldervater" (elevator), 10 circles around the baby department, 2 meltdowns, and a miscalculation and refund at the register, we had the size 2T cloth training pants I was wanting--and WAY cheaper than ordering them online. Apparently they are a new item, because they were still on the stocking cart of things to be put out today. I was thrilled! Now to see if Caroline shares in my joy....
I'm sure I could have made my own (Misty, is there such a thing as a pattern for training pants?!? If so, direct me to them...we may need more), but I just wanted enough to start us off. Actually, Caroline is just on the verge of being able to wear underwear out of the house. We are on day 4 of no accidents while out and about. Yippee! :)
